I've added a new page to my Blog. It is my Work-In-Progress page and will allow anyone who has an interest in such things to follow my progress as I work through my current projects.
|
“I write one page of masterpiece to ninety-one pages of shit. I try to put the shit in the wastebasket.”- Ernest Hemingway to F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1934.
|
My major WIP is a young adult dystopian novel tentatively entitled Beyond The Wall. A dystopia, for those of you who may not be familiar with the word, is the opposite of a utopia. A utopia is a perfect society. The people are happy, and there is no strife. Unfortunately, no strife means no conflict, and utopian novels tend not to be page-turners.
|
“The beautiful part of writing is that you don't have to get it right the first time unlike, say, brain surgery." - Robert Cormier
|
A dystopia, on the other hand, is a society in which something - or many somethings - has gone horribly wrong. Usually the main character is unhappy with the status quo and tries to change society. That is where he or she runs into trouble, serious trouble. Examples of famous dystopian novels are Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, George Orwell's 1984, Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.
On the my WIP
Page of my Blog are statistics of my progress
through this novel. I will update them as they change, which most of
the time will be daily.

“I have written a great many stories & I still don't know how to go about it except to write it & take my chances." - John Steinbeck

And one more thing. Don't e-mail me
or ask in the comments section what is beyond the wall. I won't tell
you for three reasons:
- My one superstition is that if I talk in
specifics to others about my works in progress, it will dissipate
the energy I need to write the story.
- If you want to know what's Beyond The
Wall, you can buy the book after it is published.
- I don't know what's Beyond The Wall. I hope
that by the time I've written 80,000 words or so I'll figure it out.
I also Tweet, write for The Examiner, and publish articles on Ezine Articles; follow the links below.
